Septic tank drain field

A septic system doesn’t work with a septic tank alone. To be more specific, the septic system is built of many parts and a tank is just one of them. Now, to know which parts and what comfort a septic system is, you need to know how it works.

First, the septic tank is like the first “stage” where your wastewater goes after leaving the toilet or any other room of your property with a drainage pipe. In the tank, the water stays long enough until the solids settle at the bottom of the tank, and the oil and grease float on top of it.

However, what happens with the pretreated water after this step is done? Well, the wastewater goes to the septic tank drain field, which has many ditches with perforated pipes and porous material where it is distributed.

After the wastewater is completely treated, it will leave the surface eventually, but you won’t notice it too much since it is supposed to moisten a little the soil. If you notice that your yard is too wet and there’s too much wastewater, something is wrong with the system.

Now, going back to the drain field, it is one of the most important parts of the system since, without it, there’s no way the wastewater will leave the septic tank after the solids are settled.

When you’re buying a septic tank, you need to buy a drain field as well to complete the whole system. Of course, the company that will install it for you, since you can’t do it by yourself, knows this and will recommend you the best one for the property.
